Write a reviewHailed as one of Ireland's foremost portrait artists, Alison Hurst was born in 1967 in Dublin. She attended both Limerick College of Art and Design and the National College of Art and Design, obtaining her degree in 1991, and is an associate of NCAD as well as holding certification in Visual Education. Throughout her 18 years lecturing in NCAD, Alison has taught a variety of classes from painting in oils to portfolio preparation. Many of her students are themselves accomplished artists in their own right.Over the last 20 years Alison's specialist area is as a realistic portrait artist with her media of choice being pencil on paper and oils on canvas. "Pencil is a very undervalued medium" maintains Alison. Her pencil portraits deliver a balance of strong darks and lights with the filling-in-greys not making the image muddy.Concentrating in commissioned portraits, Alison works exclusively from her studio in the heartlands of Co. Kildare. Married to Mark
