It has been great to see many of our visitors return regularly throughout the Summer and also to see so many people experiencing Killruddery for the first time. We have lots of events planned in the coming weeks. We hope you’ll come and join us!!

The 31st of July is the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic at Killruddery! This summer, experience the magic of Nature on a Dragonfly walk which will bring you through the Gardens and into Killruddery Estate. This is your chance to get a rare closer look at these curious creatures, accompanied expert Niall Keogh you will be equip with all the knowledge you need to go in search of the emerging dragonfly and damselfly species. For those of you who enjoyed a Dragon-fly-walk earlier this summer; this is not a repeat! Niall ensures us there is a whole new verity of the Species who come out at this time of year. Normal Garden Entry applies.

The Instant Orchestra and Sound Circle with Nico and Martin

How often do you get the chance to play in an 80-Piece Orchestra? To jam with friends, family and complete strangers – even if you’ve never played an instrument before? This August take part in the once in a lifetime experience of joining a Sound Circle or Instant Angklung Orchestra, with Nico Brown and Marten Brunsden. Having watched this Duo’s progress for a number of years we are particularly excited to have them coming to Killruddery!

Sound Circle.

The Sound Circle offers you and your family the opportunity to actively take part in Music Making in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Nico and Martin invite families with children aged up to 12 to dive into the sea with them for a gently participatory hour. There will be musical instruments both strange and familiar, songs, games, stories… and quite possibly pirates! Numbers are limited to 50, so to avoid disappointment do book in advance.

Instant Orchestra.

For more than twenty years Nico and Martin have travelled Ireland and abroad introducing new participants to the fun and musical adventure that is the Instant Orchestra. In that time they’ve played with children and adults of all ages and in places as far apart as Connemara and Siberia. They’ve played in tents, in schools, in theatres, at festivals, in hospitals, in parks, in the desert, on boats and on TV and radio and had everyone from the Hothouse Flowers to Mrs Mary Robinson participate. Now they’re coming to Killruddery and it’s your chance to be a part of this incredible experience!

An angklung is a tuned bamboo rattle from Java. It produces one melodious note. Angklungs range in size from tiny (high notes) to big (low notes.) Each player can play one or several. With a little cooperation large groups of players produce beautiful music even if they’ve never played an instrument before. This means that absolutely anyone can enjoy the Instant Orchestra, from the very young to the young-at-heart and beyond.

August 18th, 7.30 pm

Off The Ground Threatre Company return this year and invite you to take a trip down the rabbit hole with a production of Alice in Wonderland. Whether you’re discovering Wonderland for the first time or feel like the Mad Hatter is an old friend, the Off The Ground production, with a 16 strong cast, is guaranteed to provide an entertaining evening of performance. Picnics actively encouraged and Tickets may be purchased at the Gate.

Please don’t forget the Tearoom continues to serve yummy cakes, scones, Kitchen Garden soup, quiche with Kitchen Garden Salads, hot and cold drinks and wine daily. On Sunny Sundays we serve BBQ. All of this to offer the perfect compliment to a stroll in the gardens. Oh, and we are happy to say Ice-Cream has finally arrived at Killruddery! Two types: Wafers (here on a mission to honor this old time favourite!) and the mouth watering Dingle Based; Murphy’s in Tubs.
