One of the main objectives of secondary education is to ensure the student reaches a certain level of maturity, intrapersonal knowledge and confidence about where their strengths and weaknesses are . It is important that when entering the senior cycle the student has some idea of their post secondary education options, this being reflected in course and subject selection.

Throughout the students senior cycle studies it is important that the student works closely with the guidance counsellor to record, reflect upon and discuss personal development and learning’s. These will all be taken into consideration when discussing post secondary education options in the students’ final year.
