Cat 6

is an Ethernet cable standard defined by the Electronic Industries Association and Telecommunications Industry Association (commonly known as EIA/TIA).

cat 6 cable

is the sixth generation of

twisted pair

Ethernet cabling.

Cat 6 cable

contains four pairs of copper wire like the previous generation

Cat 5 cable

. Unlike

Cat 5 cable

, however,

Cat 6

fully utilizes all four pairs.

Cat 6

supports Gigabit Ethernet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) and supports communications at more than twice the speed of

Cat 5e

, the other popular standard for Gigabit Ethernet cabling. An enhanced version of

Cat 6

called

Cat 6a

supports up to 10 Gbps speeds.

As with all other types of twisted pair EIA/TIA cabling, individual Cat 6 cable runs are limited to a maximum recommended length of 100m (328 feet). Printing along the length of the cable sheath identifies it as Cat 6.

Category 5 cable or Cat 5 Cable is a twisted pair high signal integrity cable type often referred to as Cat5 or Cat-5. Most Category-5 cables are unshielded, relying on the twisted pair design for noise rejection. Some, however, are shielded.

Cat 5e

Category 5 has been superseded by the Category 5e (cat 5e) specification structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet, and is also used to carry many other signals such as basic voice services, token ring, and ATM (at up to 155 Mbit/s, over short distances).

Cat Cable| Patch Panel| Networking Cable| Structured Cabling

A panel of network ports contained together, usually within a telecommunications closet, that connects incoming and outgoing lines of a LAN or other communication, electronic or electrical system. The patch panel connects the network’s computers to each other and to the outside lines that enable the LAN to connect to the Internet or another WAN.

Cat5 Cable | Cat5e Cable | Cat 5 Wiring

To purchase our cat5 cable, cat5e cable, cat 5 wiring, cat 5 cables, sometimes called Ethernet cable, is short for Category 5 cable, a current industry standard for network and telephone wiring. Cat 5 cable replaces Cat 3 cable, which could only carry data at speeds up to 10 megabits per second , while Cat-5 cable supports data speeds of 100 mbps or more.

Crossover Cable | LAN Cable | Networking Cables

A LAN system is typically implemented by physically connecting all of these devices with copper-conductor twisted-pair LAN cables, the most common being an 8-wire cable which is configured as 4 twisted-wire pairs. Ethernet typically utilizes a “star” or “spoke” topology, where each computer of the LAN is connected to other computers via a central hub.

Data Cabling | UTP Cable | Network Cabling | Bulk Cable

The entire American telephone line network was either twisted pair or open wire with similar arrangements to guard against interference. For urban outdoor telephone cables containing hundreds or thousands of pairs, the cable is divided into smaller but identical bundles.
