To purchase our cat 6, cat 5 cable, cat 5e, cat 7 cable
is an Ethernet cable standard defined by the Electronic Industries Association and Telecommunications Industry Association (commonly known as EIA/TIA). cat 6 cable
is the sixth generation of twisted pair
Ethernet cabling. Cat 6 cable
contains four pairs of copper wire like the previous generation Cat 5 cable
. Unlike Cat 5 cable
, however, Cat 6
fully utilizes all four pairs. Cat 6
supports Gigabit Ethernet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) and supports communications at more than twice the speed of Cat 5e
, the other popular standard for Gigabit Ethernet cabling. An enhanced version of Cat 6
called Cat 6a
supports up to 10 Gbps speeds.
As with all other types of twisted pair EIA/TIA cabling, individual Cat 6 cable runs are limited to a maximum recommended length of 100m (328 feet). Printing along the length of the cable sheath identifies it as Cat 6.
Category 5 cable or Cat 5 Cable is a twisted pair high signal integrity cable type often referred to as Cat5 or Cat-5. Most Category-5 cables are unshielded, relying on the twisted pair design for noise rejection. Some, however, are shielded.
Category 5 has been superseded by the Category 5e (cat 5e) specification structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet, and is also used to carry many other signals such as basic voice services, token ring, and ATM (at up to 155 Mbit/s, over short distances).
