"We always rushed in where many would fear to venture," Dr Barbara Stokes, the first Medical Director of St. Michael's House.
Since our foundation in 1955, St. Michael's House has been a pioneer in the development of community-based services for children and adults with an intellectual disability and their families.
The first service opened by St. Michael's House was Ireland's first Special National School for pupils with a moderate intellectual disatbility in Rathgar. Since then, we have grown to become Ireland's largest provider of community-based services, including clinical, early services, special national schools, inclusive education, vocational training, adult day services, employment support, residential, independent living, respite, social, recreational and specialised Alzheimer services.
Working in partnership with service users and their families, we are leaders in developing services which are guided by best international practice and the belief that people with an intellectual disabilities are full and equal members of society.
