Roscommon County Council - Finance

The Finance Department is responsible for the short and long-term financing of the Council's operations, both of a Revenue and Capital nature. This encompasses monitoring and control of income and expenditure in all areas, arranging long-term borrowing and leasing requirements and investment of surplus funds.

It is also concerned on a daily basis with accounting for all money paid by, or to, the Council. The Council's revenue or day-to-day expenditure is defrayed from sources such as Commercial Rates, Commercial Water Charges, Government Grants and various other forms of income such as housing rents, planning application fees etc., The amount of capital money available is dependent on Government allocations in the areas of Housing, Roads and Environmental Services, etc.

Roscommon County Council - Roscommon County Development Board

The RCDB is administered from the offices of Community ad Enterprise Department of Roscommon County Council for which the Local Authority provides an operational budget. The Roscommon County Development Board is made up of 27 members who represent the key agencies and organisations involved in the delivery of services in the county. The RCDB was established as part of the reform of Local Government in 2001.

Roscommon County Council's Environment Department is responsible for environmental protection and enforcement of environmental legislation. Its primary objective is to protect, enhance and conserve the rich and natural environment of County Roscommon.


Roscommon County Council - Fire Service

The purpose of the Fire Service is to protect life, property and the environment by the efficient and effective prevention and control of fires and other emergencies including major emergencies. The Roscommon Fire Authority has six brigades in the county, all manned by retained fire fighters in Ballaghaderreen, Boyle, Castlerea, Elphin, Roscommon and Strokestown.
