Municard - Unique Municipal Payment System

Using coins to pay for on-street parking poses many issues for parkers and cities across America. Consumers don’t always have change and the cities need to write off income for pilferage, under payment, ability to increase charges, etc.

The time has now come for cities to move over and introduce different hassle free methods of ‘cashless parking’ with a view to rolling out these non-cash payment mechanisms in the immediate future. Municard has developed a number of flexible payment options and a single payment processing system to enable Municipalities to increase revenues, provide superior service to its citizens and enhance controls and audibility. These cashless payment mechanisms include.

These cashless payment mechanisms include:

1. Smart Card Payment On-Street
The parker goes into a local store and has value (e.g. $20) put on his card. He then inserts the card into the meter and withdraws it when it displays the amount of time for his parking needs. The unused amount remains as a credit on his card to be used on future parking needs.

2. Cell Phone Virtual Payment On-Street - Sticker
The parker first registers on-line and enters his payment details. He is then send an SMS message and an email with his password/PIN number and a Decal for his car. When he parks in the allotted space, he calls a 1800 number to notify them he is parking. When he arrives back at his car, he sends a second message to tell the system he is finished. His account is then debited for the time he was parking.

3. Cell Phone Virtual Payment On-Street – Bar Code
The parker first registers on-line and enters his payment details. He is then sent an SMS message containing a unique Bar Code. When he arrives at a multi space meter that issues stickers, he presents the bar code to the reader on the meter. This allows him to enter the amount he wants on the ticket and then to print the ticket.

4. Cell Phone Virtual Payment On/off-Street – In Car Meter
The parker is provided with a display device in a local store which includes parking credits. After registering the device he simply calls a 1 800 number when he wishes to park. After a few seconds a message is sent to the display showing the time that parking has started or the time that it is valid until, depending on local rules.

5. Pin Park payments using Internet and Cell Phone for Garages and Lots
The parker first registers on-line and enters his payment details. He is then send an SMS message and an email with his PIN number. Before entering a parking garage, he simply enters his PIN number and the barrier rises allowing entry. When he leaves he enters the same PIN number and the barrier rises. The system then calculates the time spent parking, the appropriate charge and puts it on his account. This system is also used for pre-booking a space using the on-line account.

6. 2 D Bar Code for Transit
Customer orders a ticket by either dialling 1800 number and following the (IVR) instructions or, sending an SMS to an advertised number. In both cases they receive an SMS back to their cell phone with the confirmation of purchase, unique trip number and a 2D bar code which they present to a scanner on the bus on entering. The scanner is part of a ticketing machine, which then prints them a journey receipt.
