We humans are astonishingly creative beings and everything we do starts with a thought, with a vision. Whether you decide to buy something, to undertake a journey or get to know someone better, each is a process that starts with a thought. Visualization can help bring about remarkable change and support both physical and emotional healing.
A word of caution: visualization should never be seen as a substitute for professional medical care. If you think you might have something wrong with you always consult your general practitioner.
What follows is a visualization to help support your health and it’s a great one to do last thing at night as you settle down to sleep.
Switch off the light, find a comfortable position and relax your body. Take a couple of slow, deep breaths, right down to the bottom of your lungs and as you exhale relax even more. Perhaps you need to move a little to get more comfortable, plump up the pillow or turn it over to the cool side. Does that feel better?
If you’re still feeling tense or troubled spend a little more time just gently relaxing … feel the tension flowing out of your neck, your arms, your back. Take another slow, deep breath and then exhale once more, letting go of all the stresses of the day, focussing on feeling totally comfortable and relaxed. If any thoughts intrude just let them go, breathe slowly and calmly and bring your attention back to the present.
Now imagine seeing yourself from above, watching yourself lying in bed, relaxed and peaceful. As you observe your body how do you feel about it? Do you feel loving towards it, accepting, or do you find yourself feeling critical, uncomfortable? Don’t worry. We all tend to have criticisms about how we look, how our body functions. The more you do this exercise the more it will help you to feel more caring, more accepting of yourself.
