Rapid Prototyping

By: Movement  05/12/2011

Using 3D CAD Movement will fully engineer and specify the refined concept design for prototyping. This effectively is a very detailed process which is similar in many ways to full production specification. There are differences though which are mainly due to prototyping techniques and resources. Movement have partners in the prototyping arena who are world class and internationally renowned for the quality and accuracy of their deliverables.

Prototype Production & Management

Whether you need 1 off or 100 off Movement can deliver. Our clients experience a total hassle free prototyping service because we manage the entire process in a seamless manner which delivers exemplary prototypes. We demand the utmost quality and cost effectiveness from our suppliers, they do not let us down and the results are visually accurate, beautifully finished and fully functional prototypes.

Testing & Iteration

This is what prototyping is all about, to uncover problems, identify refinements and make iterations which solve all the negatives discovered. Nothing is as valuable as a prototype in the hands of an expert user as they will quickly and accurately define what is wrong and what is right. Movement can very quickly make these iterations to get a refined prototype back in the hands of that expert. Our prototyping service is not just rapid, it is comprehensive and always human centered.

Ethnographic Research - Endoscopy Procedures - General Surgery

Movement will through its own interpretive lens define the Pro’s & Con’s of the existing subject matter and will also highlight new methods and functionality which will improve the efficacy of the procedure/task/device in question. Led by Industrial Designers, who by their very vocation are experts in holistically solving complex functional and procedural problems, the Movement research team will intelligently and creatively interpret the data.

Human Factors Engineering - Anthropometric Data - Strength Data

Apart from matching the realisation of a design to the appropriate physical measurement range for proper use it is also essential to understand the cognitive links your customer has with the device in question. Human Factors Engineering aka Ergonomics is the science dealing with the application of information on physical and psychological characteristics to the design of devices and systems for human use.

Ideation - Creative Thinking - Brainstorming - Conceptualisation

The Movement team will need to comprehensively understand your competitors, your market and your customers before designing an ideation session dedicated to your specific requirements. This report will formally record each of the chosen ideas and will visually represent them to enable them to be presented to our clients and subsequently to their key stakeholders.

Product Design - Concept Generation - 3D Ergonomic Modelling

This is the creative first step in realising just what a product concept is going to look like, the form it is going to take, the shape, size and position of controls and actuators and how the touch-points for the human body will be sculpted. When the 3D CAD concept is completed an accurate ‘white model’ will be produced from the 3D CAD data will physically present the concept form to our clients as they view the reality of how it will look.

Mechanical Engineering - Human Powered Mechanisms

Normally this process is performed in close cooperation with our clients as they link their Engineering teams with ours so that both the ‘business end’ and ‘human end’ of the device are intrinsically linked and refined in tandem. It is imperative that the Industrial Designer knows early in the development programme just how the mechanics of the entire concept construction works and what will need to be refined further.
