In areas of acute care such as 1st stage recovery, ICU, HDU and theatres medical trunking, while offering advantages in terms of cost will generally not provide the flexibility, load carrying capabilities and level of servicing that is required in such environments.

Generally in these areas more sophisticated systems such as medical pendants and beams should be utilised. The choice of which is most suitable will depend on various factors which should be carefully considered in conjunction with a knowledgeable and experienced supply partner, the clinical, construction and design teams. Some of these factors are as follows;

Area of Application

Each critical care are must be considered individually, within theatres for example a traditional beam system would not be suitable however a variation on this in the form of a media bridge in a laminar flow theatre would be ideal. In general theatres pendants should be the only option considered due to their flexibility and ability to carry equipment. The space afforded within the are must also be taken into account what may seem to work on paper may in practice be too cramped, an experienced supply partner will be able to advise on what will and won’t work in any given area.

Flexibility

In some applications the services brought through the supply units may not require a high degree of flexibility, in circumstances such as these savings can be made by considering rigid retractable type pendants. In other situations such as theatres the services may be required at either side of the patient involving a high degree of flexibility, here the only viable solution will be multi movement type pendants.

Pay load

Will the system be required to actually carry equipment? If this is the case then each item that will be fixed top the pendant must be accounted for and the overall payload requirement calculated. For example some pendant systems may need to carry a full anaesthetic machine on one side and a full endoscope stack on the other a possible applied torque of up to 9500NM! These types of loads obviously require the supports structure above ceiling to be considered.

Whatever the area of application and budget we have a solution which will be tailored to your specific requirements. From initial design our in house CAD facilities provide bespoke plans and elevations of the design to allow a fully informed decision to be made. Our experienced factory trained staff provide a comprehensive project management, installation and staff training service ensuring complete satisfaction with the finished product.

Synergy Medical – Medical Trunking, Bedhead Lighting and Cableflow’s Integra

While some of our competitors offer only standard horizontal bed head trunking for all applications and areas of the hospital, we believe that a product which has such a significant impact on the patient environment and the care provided to the patient is far too important to take a one size fits all approach.

Synergy Medical / Services / Specification Generation

Very often our clients cannot name a manufacturer in a specification, this leaves a difficulty for the engineer charged with ensuring a quality product is delivered to his client. The end result is either a poor installation or variations to the contract to obtain a compliant product; either outcome will reflect badly upon the design team.

Synergy Medical / Services / Certification and Validation

Many people do not realise that all forms of medical supply unit such as medical trunking, medical pendants, beams systems etc require certification to a European product standard which carries with it a presumption of conformity to the Medical Device Directive. Why not remove the risk and ask Synergy to carry out a recertification of your systems.
