QAP Training  – The Quality Awareness Programme is open to Childminders and Potential Childminders. The aim of the course is to increase awareness of good practice in running a child minding service in your home and increase awareness of voluntary notification, the national guidelines for childminders, information and supports available in Laois. Topics covered will include; suitability of person to become a Childminder, health and safety, child protection awareness, introductory first aid, food & nutrition, business side of child minding, síolta and wellbeing of children. Childcare Providers Network: During this meeting Childcare Providers are being asked to partake in a study through Trinity College Dublin entitled ‘An examination of professionals’ attitudes towards mandatory reporting of child abuse’. The survey should take around 45 minutes and thus we would ask all providers to be on time for the meeting. Siolta Workshop: The workshop will be on Standards 5: Interactions and Standard 3: Parents and Families.

Laois County Childcare Commitee grant aid. Laois County Childcare Commitee provide training, information and networking in Laois

The advance payment in respect of the provision of ECCE services from September 2010 has now been processed and the funds should be in the service’s bank account within 3 to 5 working days. This scheme has been developed in order to assist parents in undertaking training courses which, they may not have been in a position to do because of childcare costs.

Laois County Childcare Committee would like to advise any parents who are planning on sending their child to primary school in September and would like to avail of the Free Pre-School Year, that they must enroll their child immediately. Laois County Childcare Committee has been charged with administering the Katherine Howard Foundation funding for the Parent & Toddler Initative again in 2010.
