Septic Tanks | Klargester | A Kingspan Environmental brand

Keywords: sewage treatment, Treatment Plant

Basic Septic Tanks only partially treat sewage and discharge effluent of low quality. Many authorities in the UK & Ireland prohibit their use.

More advanced products, like Klargester SuperSeptic, offer a much higher level of effluent quality, but in all instances a Sewage Treatment Plant should be considered as the first option.

Septic Tanks may be installed (subject to consent) in applications where:

  • Soil is of suitable porosity.
  • Installation complies with Building Regulations (Approved Document H).
  • The installation will not contaminate any ditch, stream or other watercourse.

What products are available?

If you are not connected to mains drainage you have three options.

Alpha and Beta+ Range

The Klargester Alpha and Klargester Beta+ range of Septic Tanks only provides settlement for sewage solids. The liquid overflow requires further biological treatment in a suitably designed, correctly situated drainage field.

SuperSeptic Tanks

A Klargester SuperSeptic tank pumps air (including oxygen) through sewage which substantially reduces the pollution content of the overflow.

Sewage Treatment Plant

A full Sewage Treatment Plant with integral biological treatment technology produces far superior treated effluent - see our Klargester BioDisc® and Biotec™ range.

Any product installation is dependent on obtaining regulatory approvals.

Reed Beds | Klargester | A Kingspan Environmental brand

A reed bed is a natural filtration process used in conjunction with a BioDisc or Biosafe Treatment Plant to further enhance the quality of effluent migrating into surrounding watercourse. A reed bed is only required when local water authorities request a better quality of effluent than that discharged from the standard unit. Takes advantage of the heightened 'environmental awareness. Significantly improves discharge from a treatment plant.

High Capacity Pumping | Klargester

As the specification by Municipal Agencies has increased over the years, emergency storage requirements have become a mainstay for most applications in line with current legislation. Klargester has specifically developed a range of pumping stations which incorporate storage requirements which can be expanded to cater for most applications. The construction has an 8mm nominal wall thickness to provide a durable and rigid tank system.

Pump Stations | Klargester | A Kingspan Environmental brand

If the main sewer is accessible but at a higher level to (or some distance from) the domestic foul drain, then a domestic sewage pumpset may be used to pump unsettled sewage directly to the main. Installed after the septic tank or treatment system and pumping settled effluent up to an inspection chamber, flow to the drainage system then takes place by gravity in the normal way.
