We take the pre-school and after-school children on trips to our own animal farm, where they can feed and pet the animals. We also take then on outings to nature parks from time to time.
We provide cookery sessions for both our pre-school and after-school children on a weekly basis, where they can explore and develop their interest in food and how it is cooked.
The gardening programme is specifically designed for 3 to 6 year children and is delivered using the High/Scope method in an active learning environment. The gardening programme aims to introduce children to the joys of gardening – sowing, planting, growing and harvesting.
Yours child will experience what it feels like to grow a plant from seed, tend and watch that plant grow and enjoy the harvesting of the crop.
It is seasonally dictated aiming to enhancing the child’s awareness of the natural world around them.
The session is primarily a sensory experience, challenging the children to touch, smell, see, hear or taste.
Smell – from flowering plant to aromatic herbs i.e Rosemary, Thyme or Lemon Balm.
‘It smells like a lollipop!’
Touch – from smooth to textured, from stone to soil.
‘This one is cold, this one is soft!’
See – compare, describe, contrast and absorb the existence of the natural world.
‘I like the colour of that one!’
Hear – from wind chimes to rustling leaves to a bird song.
‘That bird went tweet, tweet, tweet!’
Taste – from fruit to vegetable to herb, all unique and safe choices from the garden.
‘yummy…’ or ‘ yuck…’
