Marriage & Relationship Counselling
Open Mind Therapy provides counselling to couples in marriages and relationships to support and help them to address difficulties that arise in their relationship. Making the decision to go to couples therapy can be difficult. If you and your partner are experiencing problems in your relationship, couples therapy facilitates couples to help resolve these difficulties. Seeking help is more effective than ignoring your issue.
We work on a wide range of issues and difficulties that arise in a relationship i.e. Intimacy, communication, infidelity, conflict, domestic violence, sexual issues, family issues, finances and loss. At Open Mind Therapy we provide a safe non-judgemental environment working to the ethics and standards of the Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Open Mind Therapy provides one to one counselling for adolescents from 13 to 17 years old. When teens are going through a difficult time, such as family troubles or problems in school, talking to a counsellor will support them through this difficult time. They discover inner strengths and learn different techniques to help deal with stress and anxiety.
Annmarie covers a wide range of issues such as bullying, cyberbullying, social anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders and sexual orientation. Many adolescents are in therapy to gain greater insight into the way they think, feel and act. Annmarie incorporates psycho-education into her work. This provides an educational experience.
Therapy can play an essential part in the development of today's teens and equip them with better coping skills and deeper understanding of themselves as they move into adulthood. At the beginning, therapy sessions are focused on discussing what you’d like to work on and setting goals.
For example, some of the goals may include:
Improving self-esteem and gaining confidence
Feeling less anxious and depressed
Learning new coping skills and making healthier choices
In the first session the counsellor will meet one or both parents for 10-20 minutes. Parents may find this helpful to share views and concerns. Alternatively, the adolescent may prefer to attend the first session without their parents. Parents may bring adolescent to the session to sign consent forms as confidentiality is important for adolescents. Depending on the individual circumstances, family therapy may be suggested at a later date.
