Donkeys, Ponies, Reindeer, Sheep, Geese, Cattle and Pygmy Goats all part of Santa’s Magical Trail in Clanard Court Hotel Athy, supporting the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation and Age Action

The Clanard Court Hotel in Athy will be transformed into a Magical Trail for families who want a Santa visit with a difference and the Trail is officially open on Friday 2nd December and hopes to raise €20,000 between the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation and Age Action with the assistance of The Athy Musical and Dramatical Society.  As part of this action packed 2 hour Trail, children visit donkeys, ponies, deer, sheep, geese, cattle and Pygmy goats, as well as enjoying a sneak peek into the elves bedroom, a special tour around Santa’s house from Mrs. Clause, with time to write and post their letter to Santa.   Children big and small will enjoy a snowball fight in the North Pole Snow  Room and a trip on Santa’s magical carriage around the farm before meeting Santa himself in his magical grotto for a chat and a present.  The cost of tickets is €15 per child including their Santa present while the cost for adults and infants is €6 each.  Tickets can be purchased on line at .   Families can book a meal where children are hosted by Disney characters and parents are left on their lonesome or a sleepover package including meal.  That night, everyone can gather firewood to keep Santa and Mrs. Clause warm, bed down Rudolph and the other animals for the night and afterwards watch a Christmas movie with popcorn. The following morning, the children wake up the animals and feed them their breakfast and also help make Santa’s bed.  The cost of the Magical Sleep Over is €45 per child and €85 per adult.    For further information or to make a group booking contact Claire or Sandra at the hotel sales office at

The Motivate Challenge is back and it’s BIGGER and BETTER than ever… The 2011 event will take place on the 24th September in Punchestown Racecourse, in association with the Jack & Jill Foundation. The Motivate Challenge is an adventure race which consists of 3 disciplines; Running, Kayaking and Cycling over either a 26km or 70km adventure course where competitors will take in the breath taking Kildare and Wicklow countryside before completing a lap of the Punchestown’s famous racecourse.

The beauty of the Motivate Challenge is that it appeals to both novice and elite participants alike, as the course is set out in two formats which make it achievable yet challenging to all. Whether you’re an experienced adventure race enthusiast or you’re a complete beginner looking for a fun, healthy and exciting challenge then the Motivate Challenge is for you. 

For lots of family fun on Sunday 21st August Waterford Castle is the place to be.  The Family Fun Day has something for everyone with entertainment, music,  BBQ and much more!

This year The Órla Memorial 5k will take place on Saturday 24th September at 2pm in Ards Forest Park Creeslough, in aid of The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation and Paediatric Physiotherapy at Letterkenny General Hospital. Registration is from 12.30 – 1 pm. The event is also held in conjunction with Athletics Ireland Grand Prix. “Barney” and “the Big Duck” will be there to entertain as well as face painting for all the children! There will be Prize giving and refreshments/home baking afterwards at the Ozaman centre in the Local village of Dunfanaghy. All are welcome!

To date, as a result of the enormous support that we have received over the last 2 years; over €40, 000 has been fundraised. I wish to thank everyone who has helped and supported in any way and hope that you can join us again this year to raise much needed funds for 3 great children’s charities and services!

This year Unum plan to take on Lugnaquilla, the highest mountain in Leinster, for their 2011 Charity Challenge and raise much needed funds for the Jack and Jill Foundation and Beam Services. Lugnaquilla mountain is located in the Wicklow Mountains National Park and stands at 925 metres high, making it one of the highest mountains on the island of Ireland. This challenge will take participants on a trek of 18kms starting from the beautiful Glenmalure valley and culminating in the ascent of the Lugnaquilla mountain. The challenge is being held on Saturday the 18th of June.  We wish the team every success with this year’s challenge and are delighted to be nominated one of their chosen charities.

Deirdre Tynan a Fundraiser from Waterford who held a sale of unwanted Christmas gifts in February this year is once again hosting another fundraiser in aid of Jack & Jill and Bee for Battens.

The fundraiser is a Pub Quiz which will be held in the Showboat, the Glen, Waterford on Tuesday the 12th of April at 8.30pm. Entry is €5 per person with teams of either 3 or 4 people.

At present, the Foundation cares for over 300 children, but without additional funding, they will have no option but to cut back on the number of hours of nursing they provide.

The Shamrock Fund is an appeal to the Irish Diaspora in the US to help the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation to continue to ensure that no child or their families will ever again face the isolation and desperation that Mary Ann and Jonathan faced back in 1996 when they brought their son Jack home from the hospital.

He and his family has been supported by Jack and Jill until now but unfortunately due to funding restrictions the Foundation cannot continue to care for children like JJ once they reach 4.JJ’s parents and representatives of his medical team will meet with the HSE to see if the help provided by the Foundation until now can be continued through them.

Irelands Number 1 Refuse Sacks and the HSE Community Games joined forces to break a Guinness world record in Athlone on Saturday 20th August and raise funds for the Jack and Jill Foundation. If only half of these families were not able to cope caring for their child at home with the support of Jack & Jill, this would have cost the State over 100 million euro.
