Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy based on the principle that every part of the body relates to reflex points on the feet or hands. It is based on the concept that all parts of the body are connected by pathways through which vital energy flows. As interruption to power supplies interfere with the function of appliances, so too can the flow of the body's energy be blocked, causing malfunctions in the body's organs and systems. The body has the ability to heal itself.
Following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of "imbalance". Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium. A refloxologist uses only hands to apply gentle pressure to the feet. For each client the applications of the therapy is unique. Drugs or medication of any kind are never used and as reflexology is a complementary therapy the reflexologist will never interefere with the medication your GP has prescribed for you.
Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits in the feet, in these areas the reflexologist will work carefully to release tension and restore the free flow of energy to the whole system. In doing this tensions are eased, elimination and circulation improved, bringing about a feeling of relaxation and well being to the client.
This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace. Reflexology is a holistic healing technique and as such aims to treat the individual as an entity, incorporating body, mind, spirit and emotions. Reflexoligists do not isolate a disease and treat it symptomatically, nor do they work specifically on a problem organ or system, but on the whole person with the object of inducing a state of balance and harmony. Once your body is in harmony it is wise to have a treatment every so often in order to maintain your energy and well being.
