sales consigning

By: Grove Stud  05/12/2011

For various reasons breeders wish to use a professional sales consignor to sell their horses. We are involved all year round with these studs assessing the stock, discussing their programme and choosing the correct sale for each horse. We have complete knowledge of each horse’s history and this is appreciated by the trainers and agents who are purchasing. The fact that Grove Stud sold 68 out of 70 horses presented for sale in 2008, one of the toughest years ever, proves this to be true.

“Brendan Holland is one of the most hardworking and professional people in the business. As a sometime consignor on Mount Coote’s behalf I do not know anyone who works harder at getting our horses sold whatever their value.”
Luke Lillingston, Mount Coote Stud and Kern Lillingston Bloodstock

We were second leading consignor at the Doncaster St Leger Yearling Sale in 2008 and again in 2009. We have sold in France for the last five years and have been extremely successful. We are well established as one of the top five breeze-up consignors at St Cloud and this year for the first time we were in the top ten consignors on the select day of the Arqana August Yearling Sale in Deauville, probably the most select day of yearling sales that will take place in Europe this year.

sales preparation

We currently have three breeze-up graduates in the Godolphin Racing Stable while in France the French Guineas and Oaks runner up Tamazarite is also a Grove Stud breeze-up graduate. The benefits are two fold as this helps to keep horses relaxed and therefore they maintain weight and also a few hours of grazing aids a healthy digestive system.

breaking pretraining

Almost every leading trainer in Ireland and England has had a Grove Stud graduate including stakes horses Azleem, Lahaleeb, Staying On, Prince of Light and Laureldene Gale. Grove Stud horses are consistently well prepared and conditioned and set a very high standard of care and management.. Most of our clients like us to pre-train the horses as opposed to sending them on soon after they are ridden.

I have invested in the syndicate for the past eight years and I don’t give my money away lightly but I have confidence that its good hands with Brendan”.
