Central Heating Controls Upgrade
The heating controls upgrade involves the creating of heating zones in your heating system. One of these zones must be the hot water cylinder and the other zones the radiator circuits. SEI specify that you must create three zones but this is not possible in a lot of houses. In this case you can install three thermostatic radiator valve in place of the third zone with the hot water and all the rads making up the two controlled zones. The radiator zone is controlled by a room thermostat and the hot water is controlled by a cylinder thermostat. With the use of a seven day programmer this is a highly efficient system that will give savings of up to 20% . €500 grant available see grant section
Condensing boilers are the most efficient boilers on the market today. They can convert up to 96% of the used fuel into heat by capturing the heat normally lost in waste gases. Condensing boilers are more expensive than conventional boilers but they recoup the extra outlay in less than 2 years in savings on fuel. Compared to conventional boilers condensing boilers are highly efficient , were as a conventional boilers deliver around 80% efficiency condensing boilers operate between 90.5% and 97% efficiency.€200 grant available see grant section.
High output radiators
You can dramatically improve the efficiency of your heating system by upgrading your old radiators to high output radiators.
Pre insulated cylinders
A lot of energy can be wasted if your hot water cylinder is not properly insulated. A pre insulated cylinder can dramatically improve the efficiency of your heating system.
