This is a process of an inspection of the appliance, the cable and the plug for any obvious signs of damage.
Visual Inspection includes removal of the plug cover and checking that:
- A correct fuse is being used
- The cord grip is holding the sheath of the cable correctly
- Wires are tightly attached to correct connections
- No bare wires are visible other than at the connections
- There is no sign of internal damage, overheating, entry of liquid, dust or dirt
The flex will be inspected for any
damage, ensuring it is free from cuts, fraying or stress.The lead is
secure at both the tool/appliance and plug and where covers can be

- Earth continuity test
