Recently we decided to invest in solar technology to reduce our
dependence on fossil fuels and lower our heating costs in the process.
While we considered several providers we were very impressed with the
knowledge and enthusiasm of Matthew Collison of FPI Solar and we
accepted his competitive bid for the project. Matthew did a fantastic
job of installing our three solar panels and helped us make the right
choices of equipment to suit our needs. In addition Matthew gave us
loads of good advice on a range of other things we could do to improve
our energy efficiency. We were very impressed by how neat the work was
with Matthew going to great trouble to maximise the space in our
hot press once the equipment was installed. The project was completed
on time, exactly as quoted and we were very impressed by Matthew's
follow up afterwards to make sure everything was working fine and we
understood how everything worked. We are very happy with our Solar
heating system. It makes a huge difference, particularly on bright
days and we were able to avail of instant hot water without the need
for immersion or oil for a large portion of the last year. We have
recommended FPI solar to our friends and family and will certainly be
calling Matthew to help us undertake our next project

Jeremiah & Ellen Hogan, Clooneen, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary

The staff at FPI solar were easy to work with and their professionalism ensured that the installation of the solar system went smoothly, was on budget, and on time. All our questions were answered and their customer support is excellent. Matthew's attention to detail ensured that the system was installed in an effective manner with the minimum of disruption. We would be happy to recommend FPI solar as an installer of solar hot water systems

Solar Hot Water Systems

In this period there will be minimal need to use back up heating (oil, gas, electricity etc.) and on sunny days water temperatures of 50°C – 60° C would not be unusual. A well designed and properly installed system will provide energy all year round, will be virtually maintenance free and have a design life of 30 years plus.

Attic & Wall Insulation

Thankfully there’s a simple and inexpensive solution (in the shape of glass fibre, rock wool, cellulose etc.) but it’s surprising the number of poorly insulated attic spaces we still have. Provide service walkway from access hatch to tanks. Lay 150mm glass fibre quilt between joists. Insulate water tanks and exposed pipework.

FPI Solar - Energy Conservation

In new builds it’s relatively easy to plan for renewable energy heat sources such as geothermal or solar but in existing dwellings it’s a more expensive proposition as more work is involved. It makes sound sense in these circumstances to improve the efficiency of the existing heating system rather than replace it and installing a new boiler is often a good starting point.

Geothermal Heat Pumps for Space Heating

However it’s important to remember that for all heat pump systems one fundamental does not change: The greater the difference between the temperature of the source and the output hot water temperature, the less efficient the unit becomes. The clever thing about them is the way they use electricity to operate a compressor and refrigeration circuit to move heat from a low temperature source to a high temperature source.
