architectural metalwork castings

Metalwork projects

We are versatile designers and fabricators, used to combining cast and wrought metals into complete structures of all kinds. Traditional items include pavement canopies and arcades. Contemporary and bespoke work is very diverse, ranging from replica World War 1 railway wagons to public art commissions. We install on site almost everything we make.

Architectural castings and restoration work

Over many years, we’ve built up a large library of casting patterns for many architectural elements. Until now, these have been solely for our own use but, at the request of several customers, we are preparing a full catalogue of drawings of these components and all will be available for sale singly or in batches as required.

Examples are shown here but the full range includes:

  • Columns, structural and decorative
  • Spandrel brackets and roof support brackets
  • Roof trusses
  • Balustrade panels
  • Finials
  • Gutter sections and fittings
  • Cross beams and friezes, load-bearing and decorative
  • Grilles, large and small

Bronze Plaques and memorials - Custom plaques from Leander Architectural

Cast bronze has always been the preferred material for war memorial plaques and major public unveilings, and has also proved ideal for floor plaques and trail markers set in the paving. We maintain long-term records of all the plaques we make and also offer an installation service and a refurbishment service for old plaques in need of some t.l.c.

signposts fingerposts

Many signposts and some signs still survive and we have the knowledge and casting patterns to restore or re-create them, something the Department of Transport now welcomes. Our range includes columns, ball and ring finials and many kinds of pointer, including the now-rare wooden arms with cast collars and screwed-on cast letters.

They’ve been largely supplanted by cheaper and thinner materials but they’re staging a revival for two reasons: they last far longer than other materials and they are much more appropriate for conservation areas. We have a massive range of nameplate patterns and typefaces, including a few curious fonts dating back to 1918 and carrying such obscure names as “Nuneaton Times Roman”.

information display

We design, make and install toposcopes, maps and panoramic panels for all sorts of places – Milford Haven Docks, the summit of Brown Clee in Shropshire, Antarctic bases and the middle of Portsmouth – to name a few recent ones. First impressions are very important and it’s our job to work with designers and consultants to create maps and interpretation panels which are not just user-friendly but, where possible, ‘touchy-feely’ as well.
