Pregnancy, Maternity Reflexology
Reflexology is extremely beneficial to use as an holistic therapy during pregnancy and labour. It will not interfere with the viability of the pregnancy but some clients may prefer to wait until after the twelfth week to begin treatments. Reflexology helps to realign energies throughout the whole process of pregnancy, promote relaxation, bring about balance at a physical, emotional and mental level and prepare the body for labour. The length of labour can be very much reduced by having regular Reflexology treatments in the weeks prior to the expected delivery date.
A treatment plan is built around each individual woman’s needs and requirements throughout the course of her pregnancy and for the preparation of labour. Treatments are adapted to each individual woman’s unique self-regulating and self-healing capacities. In conjunction with this treatments focus on the prevention of conditions that can arise in pregnancy alongside treating any that do.
Reflexology has demonstrated to be beneficial with the following conditions in pregnancy: Reducing morning sickness, heartburn, nausea and vomiting*, Anaemia, Backache, Blood pressure regulation (except in cases of pre-ecclampsia and ecclampsia), Hemorrhoids, Oedema, (non pathological), Muscular fatigue and tensions, Improve pelvic floor flexibility, Gestational Diabetes, Changes in appetite, Constipation or any change in bowel movement and pattern, Anxiety, Insomnia, Urinary tract problems, Symphisis Pubic Dysfunction (SPD).
