Landscape architecture encompasses both the design of public open space and the integration of new development into the local urban or rural landscape. The aesthetic employed by Kennett Consulting in an individual project could either make a colourful bold statement or be subtle and naturalistic, depending on what is appropriate to the location and the aspirations of the client.

Addressing landscape design throughout the whole design process affords opportunities to direct a new development's relationship with adjoining public and private buildings or spaces, and ensures that new streetscapes and public open spaces are robust, legible, meaningful, useable and substainable. By contrast, trying to 'retro-fit' a landscape design to a development masterplan that is already fixed is rarely successful in meeting the aspirations of a client or (sometimes more importantly) the planning authority who will decide upon a grant or refusal of planning permission.
