The Cub Scout Section

At the moment this section caters for children from 9 to 11 years of age or who are in 3rd to 5th class. We meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7.00 to 8.30pm. During our weekly meetings we play games and we do a variety of different Scouting activities. Apart from our weekly meetings we also do lots of different activities at the weekends.

Cub Scouts range from 9 to 11 years of age. The Cub Scout Adventure is full of fun and exploration. We are all about finding out about new things and new ways of having fun. We learn to become more responsible because we want to do more things like go on longer camps and lead activities. Cub Scouts are organised into small groups called six and gues what, there are 6 Cub Scouts in them! The Sixes are collected together in what we call a Pack. The Six has one of the Cub Scouts as their leader and that person is called the Sixer. The Sixers meet and talk about things that the Cub Scouts would like to do and this meeting is called a Sixer Council.

Cub Scouts are given more responsibility and more say in the running of the programme and as a result can do more. Responsibility is the key to helping the Cub Scout grow as it teaches them to look after themselves and to look out for others. They spend more time working in small groups and making decisions as a team. Each Six has a leader (Sixer) and assistant leader (Seconder). Every Cub Scout should have a job to do in the Six and they should be given more responsible jobs as they progress. The Sixer’s Council should meet periodically to chat about bigger issues or topics and to guide the direction of programme. Scouters should ensure that each Cub Scout is given the chance to take on additional responsibility as they develop and the chance to act as the leader of a small group on a regular basis.

Getting out into Nature is what Cub Scouting is all about. There is so much to explore in nature and the Cub Scout Programme will help the Cub Scout what to look out for. You can see Cub Scouts inaction on Jamóige – which is a Giant camp for Cub scouts and normally has over 2000 Cub Scouts camping together. National Cub Scouting days as well as Pack Holidays also are typical activities for a Cub Scout to go on.

A new Scouting year is upon us once again! We will be holding a registration evening and AGM on Monday 5th September at 7:30pm. If you wish your child(ren) to be involved in Scouting again in Blackrock this year they must be registered on that night. Due to the high numbers on our waiting lists for all sections only those Scouts that are registered on that night will have a chance of a place for this year. At least one parent from each family must attend to ensure a spot this year.

Hope to see you all in attendance Monday 5th of September.
Kind Regards,
29th Dublin Scout Group

Hi all

Our Beaver Leader Stephen is running an archaeology camp for children, called Dig It Kids, in the Scout Den for 6-12 year olds. It promises to be a fun week for those involved, I know my 2 enjoyed the day activity that was ran over Easter.

The Venture Scout Section « 29th Dublin Blackrock Scouts

I would love to tell you the rest of the trip was easy: we left the campsite, on time; walked the relatively straight road from Llanberis to Caernarfon, arriving on time; but if I told you that I would be lying. Along the road we stopped at an adventure centre, and asked for information about SPA and MIA climbing awards, all part of the debate on what is the plan for next year.
