We produce a wide selection of classic split cane rods from historic tapers derived from the originals. Each taper has its own feel and many of them have been fished for well over 100 years. If fly fishing has been a family pursuit you can be fairly sure that your parents or grandparents have fished on one of these rods. Many people ask us how our rods are reasonably priced and the answer is simple, many of the rod builders out there are working as single workers making the production slow and not cost effective. The rods they produce are works of master craftsmanship and have every ounce of themselves in them. But this makes the rods very expensive and the majority of anglers want bamboo they can feel comfortable fishing. The rods we produce are made in exactly the same way, but because we can work on multiple rods in a specialist workshop we can cut the production time and hence the cost. We are sure you will find our rods every bit as fishable as rods costing €1600/$2000, we are so sure of this that we offer a 30 day money back guarantee on each and every rod we produce.

You can see the tapers we have in production by selecting the 'Classic Tapers' section above. Have you got a hankering for a taper we don't list? Select the 'Custom Tapers' section and tell us what you require, we have hundreds of tapers on file or we can produce you own taper for you.

We also have a small selection of reels available. We have machined reels and reproduction classics reels available. You may want to purchase your own separately, but if not why not try our small selection of reels we have tried and tested. We think you will find them a good mach for the rods and they are also reasonably priced.

The Classic Rod - ClassicTapers

The E.F. Payne Rod Co. was founded in 1898 in highland Mills N.Y. By 1904 or so Ed Payne was joined by his 10 year old son Jim as apprentice and only 10 short years later Ed Payne passed away in 1914 leaving his son Jim a legacy and large shoes to fill. The following rods are the most common requests we get for rods, but remember if you want something special have a look at the 'custom tapers' section.

The Classic Rod - Custom

If it is a relatively popular old rod we don't list just send us the name, size and weight because we probably have the taper on file already. Please feel free to request any taper, there is no extra cost for making a custom rod, actually we look at it as the old saying goes. We can produce any taper you want and it only takes one week extra on average.
