If you confessed to not knowing who the Kardashians were, far from sneering at your blissful ignorance, I think I’d have to kiss you. There are so few innocents left in the world. A kiss would be the least I could do. Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian are a veritable Cerberus of inanity and lip [..]

When you think through the plots of any number of romantic comedies, they largely involve one or both parties keeping secrets or some false pretence, going to questionable lengths to maintain their lies, only for things to unfurl in the last act. Sometimes lessons are learned but there can be no denying that the leads [..]

I know what you’re thinking: “Why are Guinness running Arthur’s Day again?” I wondered the same myself and the figures for the marketers have probably been very favourable over the past few years. *However*, I’m positive towards the event for two reasons: first of all they’ve given Irish bands a foot up through the Our [..]

A little while ago after seeing A Betrayal of Penguins supporting their sketch comedy peers ‘Foil, Arms and Hog’ at Whelan’s I mentioned that, golly I would like to see a full show of them. Sure enough just like that time I asked for Power Ranger toys for Christmas, I got my wish (which by [..]

I missed the inaugural meeting of the Amy Winehouse Appreciation Society; she was on MTV rotation before I’d heard of her. I always feel ashamed when I admit that, like it was remiss of me not to have caught the kernel of her talent, not to have been around to add to the heat that [..]

Always doing things a little bit differently, Dublin’s Fringe Festival (which continues its partnership with Absolut this year), launched this morning with a breakfast buffet rather than the usual drinks reception. This year’s festival promises to be bigger and bolder than any of the previous 16, incorporating nearly 900 artists in 82 shows which will take [..]

Four years ago, Justin Lee Collins tried to resurrect another classic TV show (his A-Team one was legendary), with Bring Back Dallas. Little did he know, that five years later, JR, Bobby and the rest of the gang (plus the dude from Desperate Housewives that went out with Nadine) would be coming to our screens. [..]

Culch.ie » Advent Movies

If you enjoyed the first two you won’t be disappointed with this but it stands alone well for those who have never visited the magical world of Narnia before. The Pevensie children were heroes in my young imagination but I find the characters a little irritating watching them as an adult on the screen. I enjoyed the movie as much as the first two instalments, neither of which I thought came anywhere near outdoing the magic of the books.

First off, apologies for bothering you with another On the QT installment in 24 hours, but it was quite a surprise for me to get the invite to the first Irish screening of the long awaited next film by Quentin tonight. Right, so for those of you following my series of Quentin Tarantino reviews coming up to the release of his long awaited war epic “Inglorious Basterds“, I give you the third part from where I left off here.

Culch.ie » Minute Movie Mystery

Guess the movie: – Released in 1993 Tori Amos was considered for the female lead Tom Hanks, Chevy Chase, John Travolta and Steve Martin were all considered for the lead male role. No cheating etc, or I’ll set up a petition to get more Jennifer Lopez films made.

Maybe it was the release of The Social Network reminding us of Aaron Sorkin’s genius, maybe it was the fact that Martin ‘President Bartlet’ Sheen has been in town for JDIFF, maybe it’s just that it’s been far too long, but we’ve been re-watching our West Wing boxset here at Culch towers and my, my.
