Our Service

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Borovalley Equine Veterinary Clinic provides a wide range of services to all horse owners, breeders and trainers. Although Browne and Fahey have historically been associated with the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry, the practice services all manner of pleasure and performance horses. From showjumping to cross country and pony club to polocrosse, our vets are ready to help you ensure that your horse is maintained in the best possible health.

Digital Radiology

Using the latest digital x-ray equipment, The Borovalley Equine Clinic offers a wide range of services including pre-purchase x-rays, survey radiographs, and diagnostic imaging of problem areas in the horse including the head, neck, back and legs. For emergency cases, x-rays can be taken on the farm in cases where it is not possible to transport the injured horse safely.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Digital Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a very useful non-invasive diagnostic tool used to image a range of conditions that affect the horse. The advent of new technology and improved techniques allows us to image just about any soft tissue structure in the equine patient.  Ultrasound is an excellent compliment to radiology as it allows us to visualise soft tissue areas around joints that can not be picked up on x-rays.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Diagnostic Ultrasound

Here at the Borovalley Equine Clinic we have both portable scanners, carried by all our vets for use in the field, and a high resolution, state of the art ultrasound machine for use in the clinic. Ultrasound is used routinely in reproductive tract examinations, tendon and ligament investigations.  It is also used to evaluate the chest, abdomen, back, pelvis and any other soft tissue structures in the horse.

The Surgery

The Borovalley Equine Surgery has been in operation since the clinic opened in June 2009.  The surgery is well equiped and has two padded rooms used to maximise the safety of the horse during induction and recovery from anaesthesia. Close circuit tv is also used so our staff can safely monitor horses recovering after surgery. The clinic is currently only doing elective surgery on a weekly basis.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pre-Purchase Examinations

Prior to the important investment of purchasing a new horse, a complete pre-purchase examination is recommended. The horse is observed for soundness and has a thorough physical examination from head to tail, including an ocular and cardiac examination. Upper airway endoscopy and x-rays can be included in the pre-purchase examination prior to private or commercial sales.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Equine Dentistry

Equine dentistry is an important area for maintaining optimum performance and health of the horse. Oral pain and discomfort can be due to many disorders of the mouth including; sharp enamel points, wolf teeth, hooks, loose or fractured teeth, gum disease from pocketing food, ulceration, impacted deciduous teeth and abscess. Lameness Evaluation

Sports medicine and lameness diagnosis is an important service provided by the Borovalley Equine Clinic. Examination's are carried out in specified lunging rings and trot up area's.  An accurate diagnosis is facilitated by use of regional anaesthesia, radiology and ultrasound. Up to date therapies used at the clinic include; shockwave therapy, stem cell therapy, IRAP, Tildren & mesotherapy for back probems.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Video Endoscopy / Gastroscopy

Endoscopy and gastroscopy are important tools for diagnosing possible causes of poor performance in the equine athlete.  Endoscopy is used to visualise the nasal passages, gutteral pouch, upper and lower airways to detect signs of inflammation, infection and anatomical abnormalities that may require surgery. Gastroscopy is used to examine the stomach of the horse to detect the pressence of ulcers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reproduction

Equine Reproduction has traditionally been a huge part of the veterinary services provided by the practice.  From foal medicine to pregnancy diagnosis, artificial insemination to assisted foaling's, our vets have been helping breeders to maximise the performance of their breeding stock every season. The clinic has facilities for routine reproductive examinations and advanced procedures such as embryo transfer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Laboratory

The Borovalley Equine Clinic operates its own in-house laboratory.  This facility carries out routine blood profiles for performance horses and intensive care profiles for acute or chronically sick horses.  Bacteriological culture and sensitivities are also carried out on swabs taken from uterine, skin and joint fluid samples. Faecal egg counts to determine worm burdens can also be assessed on site.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Pharmacy

The Borovalley Equine Clinic Pharmacy supplies a full range of prescription medicines, bandage material, non-prescription products, wormers and supplements. 'Prescription only' medications can only be dispensed by the veterinarian treating the animal. Browne and Fahey maintain established, long standing relationships with our pharmaceutical vendors to ensure the best in quality and safety.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ambulatory / Farm Visits

Since the opening of the new facility, Browne and Fahey equine vets have still been dedicated to providing routine farm visits and 24 hour emergency care for our clients and their horses.  All our vets are equiped to do standard procedures on farm, including ultrasound examinations, reproduction services, assisted foaling's, colics,  routine medical and minor surgical procedures.
